Elizabeth Humbarger Tolerance Memorial Garden

Siegfried generated landscape and civil improvement plans for the construction of the new two story student services building on the campus of the San Joaquin Delta Community College. Landscape and irrigation plans for the proposed building including modifications to the parking lot islands, a new Japanese garden and courtyard area, and preservation and enhancement of the campus nature trails system which is adjacent to the new building. The restoration involved reestablishment of four riparian zones originally set in the 70's. The redwood forest grove located in the back of the existing building had to be shifted north to accommodate the conceptual design for the Tolerance Memorial. The landscape area consisted of a meandering path with a false concrete bridge which crossed a dry creek and goes to a patio seating area with a Japanese themed garden which was based on Elizabeth Hambarger's local support of the education of the Japanese during the war.
